Although it is very tempting to buy items in the game (hence why they have made so much so far), there is really no game altering feature to paying. The currency can easily be obtained by committing more to the game, or by paying. Pokemon Go is fairly simple, to where all of the items can be gained on a short timer by traveling around, and as long as you are playing and moving around, you will be able to constantly get the common necessary items in the game. In all honesty, the system is pretty fair, since the actual acquisition of the powerful monsters is done randomly. The drawback for how much is paid currency in it though is balanced out to where they give plenty of the magic stones in it on a monthly basis, and also that the effectiveness of them doesn't change (5 stones has the same value to the early game than it does to the lategame, unlike CoC, where 5 gems is really good in the early game, but useless in the late game). The magic stones are used to reset stamina (stamina is spent to enter dungeons, higher level, higher cost, and stamina bar increases as player level increases), a continue button, roll randomly for more powerful monsters, and other small features. Puzzle and Dragons is much worse, but compensates regularly. Although the lives portion is on a timer, and the power ups have various ways to get for free, it starts to implement a bit more features controlled by payment. They use the paid currency (I don't know the actual name, as I got 10 levels through and went back to Puzzles and Dragons) in order to have the players get power ups that alter gameplay some, as well as give the players the ability to continue playing the game if they run out of lives. CoC does give a steady, but small stream of gems, which is fair at early levels, but becomes worse at higher levels as the increased amount means that gems need to be saved up for weeks or months before they become relevant. With the monetization there, it is a matter of small convenience that people will get over, or push their game a little bit ahead. Due to that, everything is clearly within the realm of possibility, and it's very easy to wait it out, or grind a little bit more in order to skip over the gem cost.
